“I could tell story after story of the extravagant, selfless generosity we’ve been the recipients of during this season of life. My heart is so grateful. While each gift, prayer, kind word, or act of service brought immeasurable joy and peace to our hearts, I think my favorite display of generosity was the unexpected gift. Packages would arrive on our doorstep from people we had never met, and friends from all stages of our lives delivered meals and gifts.
One evening, a few weeks after our son entered heaven’s gates, we decided to have a date night using a gift card to a fancy local restaurant. When we arrived, we said a quick hello to a friend of a friend who was also at the restaurant. After a delicious meal, we asked for the check and learned it had been taken care of. It was an expensive tab. We had decided to splurge a little since we had the gift card. But this friend of a friend, this acquaintance, decided to bless us with a meal. We were overwhelmed.
Why us? We didn’t know how to accept such an extravagant gift. I think that was the night our hearts began to shift on the topic of generosity. As we enter into this season of giving, I’m asking myself, “How can we bless others with the unexpected gift?” One of our goals as a family is to always connect our giving to our Savior. This Christmas, as we fill our manger with straws of generosity, our prayer is that each display of generosity points people straight to Jesus.”- @francieoutlaw
