“It all started off innocuously enough when we discovered we couldn’t flush the toilet one morning. Next thing I knew I had a phone call from my husband saying that our toilet had backed up and exploded all over the main living area of our home. It was disaster. That night we went to bed with all the floors in the main level of our home torn up and quickly got kicked out of the house for a week and half while our home featured as a revolving door for various insurance men, contractors and repairmen. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My husband travels for work so eventually he left me and our two year old couch surfing in Nashville— FUN. But as overwhelming as all of that may have been, our community overwhelmed us even more. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They let us stay in their homes, fed us dinner, started a meal train for us, helped us do laundry, looked after our kid and overall just made sure we knew we weren’t alone. People came out of the woodwork, even people who I’ve connected with through social media over the last few years had meals sent to our home the weekend we moved in. It was overwhelming. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s taught me so much. It’s taught me how a clean, safe place to lay your head heals you. That a home cooked meal can literally turn a day around. That being a refuge to others in need is eternal work that changes lives. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It makes me want to pay it forward and give back. It made me realize that kindness changes everything.”- @gabllewellyn
